L.A. Unified Encourages Employees to Save for Retirement during “National Retirement Security Week”

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 18, 2016) - The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education today unanimously proclaimed the week of Oct. 16-22, 2016 as “National Retirement Security Week.” During this week, employers should promote the benefits of saving for retirement, while encouraging employees to understand the economics of retirement and take full advantage of employer-sponsored plans.

“It is never too early for employees to start saving for retirement,” said Board Member Mónica Ratliff, who sponsored the resolution. “Years ago, when I first started working, I wish I had taken my supervisor's advice and begun saving for retirement. I encourage all employees to seriously consider participating in a plan that meets their needs.”

“Start saving today! We are proud to be an institution that values our employees,” said School Board Member Mónica García. “Let’s learn about financial savings!”

The board specifically highlighted the District’s award-winning 457(b) Open Architecture Bundled Plan. In 2014, the National Association of Government Defined Contribution Administrators, Inc. honored L.A. Unified with its Leadership Award for excellence and innovation in designing the deferred compensation retirement plan.
