Vaughn is currently executive director of Food and Child Nutrition Services for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and he previously held similar positions at districts in Huntsville and Scottsboro, AL. In each of these districts, he is credited with implementing improvements that increased meal participation and revenue. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Newberry College and a master’s of education degree from Post University.
“I look forward to Mr. Vaughn joining L.A. Unified and continuing the work that has made us a model for nutrition and healthy choices,” said Dr. Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, the District’s chief executive officer of Educational Services.
Vaughn will begin his $166,200-a-year job on Aug. 1. He will succeed Laura Benavidez and Timikel Sharpe, who were appointed last August as interim co-directors following the resignation of Director David Binkle.
The District’s $394 million Food Services Division serves more than 132 million meals annually through its breakfast, lunch, supper and summer programs.
