Superintendent's Update on MiSiS

The MiSiS team continues to gather feedback from the field and use that information to improve the quality of service provided to school sites. This week we made an organizational change involving HelpDesk and training personnel. All staff responsible for fielding trouble calls and training employees are now part of a unified team managed by the Director of Organizational Change Management in ITD, Jennifer Kessler. Ms. Kessler is an experienced educator who understands all aspects of managing a school site, the daily challenges our school employees face, and the kinds of tools and support that are most beneficial.

I am confident this change will enable us to be more proactive in anticipating system users’ needs and improving the alignment between our customer support and training services. Only with the full commitment and continued involvement of everyone in the LAUSD community will we achieve true success.

Key Updates and Highlights

System Status
• MiSiS will not be available from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday due to planned system maintenance.

Grades and Graduation Standards
• MiSiS now has the capability to print secondary students’ cumulative record labels.
• Critical updates to 2015 graduation standards reports have been developed and are currently being tested.

Enrollment
• The team is exploring a scenario that would allow a student to be enrolled at a new school if he or she has not had any attendance recorded for ten days at any other LAUSD school; this would reduce problems with duplicate student records.

Attendance

• Schools are reminded to submit attendance daily in alignment with District Policy. Schools should also contact their educational service center if they are experiencing challenges with addressing the attendance backlog.

Scheduling
• New enhancements based on user focus groups were added to MiSiS, including a Course Request Summary Report, which allows counselors to see all course requests made by students. Additionally, there is now a column that allows counselors to see special classifications for students, if any (e.g., English Learner, Special Education).
