WHAT: Students at 186th St. Elementary School have a common goal: Unity for peace. They will celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday by holding their 10th Annual Peace March and by releasing 20 doves for unity. In addition, they will commit to live and work in a bully-free learning zone and complete public service projects.
The students also will meet Jessica Carscadden, who was honored by the organization, Peacefirst, which offers a curriculum that includes games and activities to teach students positive behaviors. She also founded the “We Care Bears Project,” which provides stuffed animals for young victims of trauma. Despite being born with a facial defect and abandoned by her parents in China, and since adopted by U.S. parents, the teenager has dedicated herself to helping others.
