The Superintendent's Weekly Update

The Superintendent's Weekly Update
Friday, Nov. 21, 2014

Every Friday, I will send a weekly update that highlights the top issues being addressed by the MiSiS team and the upcoming milestones.

I want to thank the Bond Oversight Committee for approving our request for $12.4M in funding to support the efforts of improving MiSiS. I want to assure you that I realize the Bond Oversight Committee has oversight over a limited amount of funds. I acknowledge that these funds do not come close to meeting the needs of our aging buildings, especially do to the lack of deferred maintenance funding that we have experienced over the last several years. My passion is for bricks and mortar, yet, we also need to focus on the educational technology needs of our schools. I look forward to an ongoing collaborative and transparent working relationship with the Bond Oversight Committee.

I also want to remind our principals that they have the discretion and flexibility to use the extra allocation of funding that was provided to them to pay any of their employees for additional hours they spend on MiSiS. This funding can be found in Program 3027. Fiscal specialists can assist you if needed.

Finally, I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you all are able to spend time with your friends and family.
I appreciate your efforts on behalf of all of our students and families.

Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines

Top Issues Being Addressed

• The transcript report is not reflecting the graduation standard screen. What is on the screen is not printing.
• The transcript report is running into two pages when there is still space on page 1.
• Transcripts should reflect up to 10 credits towards graduation if the student took Algebra courses in Middle School and received a grade of A, B, or C.
• Data cleanup for transcripts is needed. Midterm marks should not be included. All academic classes need a mark and credit values are missing for some records.
• The transcript report needs to have logic in place so courses that were passed and then repeated for a better grade will not earn credit again.

If you are still experiencing issues with transcripts, please contact the help desk at (213) 241-5200, Option 5.

Master Schedule – Second Semester Rollover
• The performance of the system has been improved for the Rollover process. We are still working on the open issues that schools have submitted for the Master Schedule. If you are experiencing issues, please submit them to the help desk.

Attendance/Statistical Reports
• The team continues to work on the statistical reports. Central teams are reaching out to impacted schools to resolve this issue. Schools should not send statistical reports in at this time.
English Learners
• Currently Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) letters and monitoring rosters are displaying inaccurate information. The Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department (MMED) is working with MiSiS to correct and update the data and information displayed on these reports. We realize that these reports assist schools with monitoring the progress of reclassified, therefore we are working on expediting the process. Although these reports are currently unavailable, please continue to monitor and document progress as required by Ed. Code. We will inform you as soon as these reports are available for use.

Fall Survey
• The MiSiS reclassification functionality is not available to schools yet.
• The Parental Waiver screen is being enhanced. Schools will have until December 15 to enter the required Parental Waiver information.
• Schools have until December 15, 2014 to verify the data for course enrollment information.

Upcoming Milestones
• The Help Desk will be available for support Monday-Wednesday of next week. Please call 213-241-5200 if you are in need of assistance.
• The due date for including school meal data for 2015-16 Title 1 ranking decisions has been extended to December 1. This will have no impact on the budget.
• MiSiS will be down for maintenance the weekend of December 6 and 7.
• Final grades for secondary students are due on December 19 for the first semester.
