Continuing to build upon a more collaborative approach, the committees were formed in order to better support SEIU employees and enhance their experience at LAUSD:
Training and Career Path Committee
District and SEIU representatives had a very productive meeting on the committee’s goal, expanding training and career path options for SEIU members. The committee’s first meeting was Oct. 29, 2014 – topics included career advancement workshops, summer training options and the career ladder program. The District and SEIU will meet again on Dec. 3 to discuss developing these into programs that will enhance the quality of our workforce and cultivate some of the future leaders of our District.
Safety and Materials Committee
The goal of the Safety and Materials Committee is to identify, discuss and resolve health and safety concerns of SEIU members through a supportive, collaborative approach. The committee’s first meeting was Nov. 13, 2014, and the committee discussed providing enhanced training on safety measures as well as ensuring appropriate utilization of materials. The next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 11, 2014.
The committees strive to foster and strengthen relationships with our labor partners and employees to better inform our work through continued collaboration. The third committee, the Hours and Work Year Committee is scheduled to meet on Nov. 19, 2014 and will also discuss matters related to vacation and assignments. The committees will include 10 members – five appointed by SEIU and five appointed by the District.
In an effort to encourage collaboration and solution-oriented strategies, the District is forming similar committees with other labor partners based upon the unique needs of the members they represent.
