Board Member Mónica García said the honor was merited. “As our general counsel, David Holmquist’s leadership, optimism, and willingness to take on the most challenging issues have advanced our mission to reach 100% graduation,” said Board Member García. “He is an amazing advocate for youth and models the highest quality of public service. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.”
Board Member George McKenna said: “Dave, congratulations on a well-deserved award and recognition for your outstanding service to the District and larger community. You make us proud.”

Unified include: recovering $26 million from insurance carriers to cover in 2007 the arson damage at Garfield High School; negotiating agreements to bring internet connectivity to schools with a significant concentration of low, social economic populations; and overseeing and implementing the Office of Civil Rights Settlement Agreement for English Language Learners and Resource Comparability.
