LAUSD Board Approves Contract for Rory Pullens to Head Arts Education

LOS ANGELES (May 20, 2014) –  The Los Angeles Unified Board of Education today approved the contract of Rory Pullens to serve as executive director of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Arts Education Program.
“I’m thrilled that Rory will be joining the LAUSD,” said Superintendent John Deasy. “He brings an extraordinary background in the arts along with a string of astounding successes in his previous posts. Rory’s appointment furthers the commitment of the LAUSD to provide a world-class arts education to all of our students.”

Pullens, who was approved for a one-year contract that expires June 30, 2015, will be paid an annual salary of $147,086. He also receives a one-time moving allowance of $10,000 and a $250 per-month car allowance.

In his new position, Pullens’ duties include: leading the effort to identify and design district-wide strategies to address areas of need in arts education; overseeing the development of curriculum and standards-based instructional models and assessment in arts education; developing strategies to increase the number of students participating in arts education; and manages the arts education budget.
