9/20/13 - ALL: LAUSD 5k ‘Move It’ Challenge and Health Festival - November 16

In partnership with the Dodgers, Beyond the Bell, and the AC Green Foundation, this event aims to bring awareness to importance of eating healthy and engaging in daily physical activity while also raising money to support District-wide health and wellness programs and services offered through the LAUSD Wellness Centers. Proceeds will help to fund, the purchase of Instant Recess CDs, supplies and equipment to promote physical activity (i.e. outdoor gym equipment, jump ropes, exercise bands, hula hoops, etc.); supplies to build or enhance school gardens; and nutritionists and fitness trainers.

As a part of the Challenge, the Dodgers are sponsoring an essay contest encouraging students to take the pledge to be healthy by eating balanced meals, moving for at least 30 to 60 minutes every day, and training to walk or run in the 5k.

The contest, which is open to all elementary, middle and high school students, asks students to describe how they will make changes in their lifestyle to live a healthy and fit life. Contest participants will be required to write a one-page essay that describes their pledge. Essays submitted will be reviewed by the Office of the Chief Operating Officer, a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers staff and a member of the 5k planning committee. The top three winning entries at the elementary, middle and high school levels will each be awarded vouchers for four (4) game tickets for an upcoming 2014 Los Angeles Dodgers home game. The awards will be presented at the 5k event.

Encourage your students to participate in the essay contest and the 5k. To learn more about the event, how you can participate and raise money for your school, and register, please visit http://moveit.lausd.net or send an email to moveit@lausd.net
