Former LAUSD Teacher Arrested on Various Charges of Sexual Misconduct

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 23, 2012) – The Los Angeles Police Department announced this afternoon that Robert Pimentel, who taught at George De La Torre Jr. Elementary School in Wilmington, has been arrested.

Pimentel was charged with 15 various counts, including sexual abuse and lewd acts
on a child.

In March 2012, the Los Angeles Unified School District received notice from authorities when
evidence surfaced of alleged sexual misconduct. Since that time, the District has cooperated
closely with law enforcement. Pursuant to District rules, parents were informed last March within 72 hours of the teacher’s removal from the campus.

When the District first learned of the allegations, the teacher was immediately removed from
campus, parents were informed, and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing was advised. Dismissal proceedings were initiated. Before the Board of Education could act on dismissal, he chose to retire.

Parents and guardians will be informed of his arrest by letter and by telephone.
