Message from Superintendent Deasy on the State Audit Report

November 29, 2012

Dear Colleagues:

I would like to share with you the District’s response to the Bureau of State Audits report titled “Los Angeles Unified School District: It Could Do More to Improve Its Handling of Child Abuse Allegations” released today at 9 a.m.

Our primary goal is ensure the safety of youth and we will take any and all actions to do that. We respectfully accept all of the recommendations presented in this audit.

The state report acknowledges the strong steps that the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has taken over the past several months to improve the safety of students on our campuses.  Along with other policy changes instituted by the District, including the 72-hour notification to parents of alleged employee misconduct at their child’s school, these steps will further the trust and confidence of LAUSD families that students are learning in a safe environment. Recommendations in this audit also include California legislative changes, which we have and will continue to support.
