WHAT: The 2018 Los Angeles Unified School District Academic Decathlon competition, featuring some of the top high school scholars, will culminate Saturday with the popular “Super Quiz” competition.
Last Saturday, kicked off the 2018 Academic Decathlon competition, where 57 teams of high school decathletes competed in the first round of the contest, covering the speech, interview and essay categories.

BACKGROUND: In all, 57 teams of student decathletes will compete in the second and final round of competition in the following subject areas: art, music, language and literature, mathematics, economics, social science and science. In the afternoon, they will compete in the exciting “Super Quiz” competition. This year’s study topic is “Africa.” The winner will be announced Feb. 11 at Belmont High School. The highest scoring team, as well as any wild-card teams announced, earn bragging rights and advance to the state competition in March.
The Academic Decathlon is part of Beyond the Bell Programs.
