BACKGROUND: In 1884, Mr. William McClure donated land for a school to be built at the intersection of Penrose and Wildwood Streets. Even though it was only a one room school house, it provided an education for the children of Sun Valley through the eighth grade. Although the school was small, it would play a large role as the town changed around it. In 1917, Los Angeles expanded its city limits, and Vinedale School was annexed into the Los Angeles Unified School District. Thus began 100 years of tradition and excellence.
