This issue highlighted the beginning of the 2014-15 school year. This issue highlighted events such as School Volunteer Fairs, Walk to School Day, the District-wide Earthquake Exercise, our Choices application window opening and National School Bus Safety Week. We also highlighted the announcement of Dr. Ruth Perez serving as our Deputy Superintendent of Instruction, the number of Advanced Placement exams reaching an all-time high, the District reaching salary agreements with key labor groups, as well as highlighting September as Attendance Awareness Month and our Discipline Foundation video showcasing how LAUSD is transforming school cultures.

The Policy Brief for the month of September focused on the Foundation of Work we've implemented thus far to ensure all youth achieve.

The September 2013 edition was the first LAUSD Insider of the 2013-14 school year. This issue highlighted events such as Walk to School Day, the District-wide Earthquake Exercise, 35th Annual Very Special Arts Festival and National School Bus Safety Week. We also highlighted the Board Approval of the Common Core State Standards Budget, the NCLB Waiver for CORE Districts Overview presentation, the Common Core Technology Project website and newsletter as well as a Common Core State Standards PSA video. 

The Policy Brief for the month of February focused on the Common Core Technology Project (CCTP) and how LAUSD is embarking on transformational work to not only ensure all students are college-prepared and career-ready, but also provide schools with 21st century tools to enhance the instructional possibilities for both teachers and students through the CCTP.

This issue highlighted events such as our LAUSD High School Graduations, LA Public Library Summer Reading, LAUSD's Free Summer Lunch Program and Beyond the Bell's Make Music Los Angeles. We also highlighted the District's API Scores, High Percentage of 10th Grade HS Exit Exams, Advanced Placement Results, the District's Special Education Integration, a Budget Update for the Upcoming 2013-2014 School Year, and a new program coming in the fall "POWER Challenge" for schools to participate in.

The Policy Brief for the month of June focused on Transforming LAUSD, looking back at the 2012-2013 accomplishments and how the District initiated our strategic plan at the beginning of the school year and how we plan to move forward.

February 2013 Edition
The February 2013 edition was the first LAUSD Insider of the second semester in the 2012-13 school year. This issue highlighted events such as the 2013 Million Word Challenge, upcoming Read Across America celebrations and a regional conference for high school students sponsored by SCAQMD. We also highlighted the Superintendent's response to Governor Brown's plan for funding public schools, multiple Board of Education actions from January and February, the new "Arts Matter" campaign, and the new online transcript ordering process. 

The Policy Brief for the month of February focused on the English Learner Master Plan and how LAUSD is striving to provide all students equal access to a high quality education regardless of race, color or national origin. 



The November 2012 edition of the LAUSD Insider was filled with useful information about the passage of Proposition 30, the Board of Education unanimously approving to restore the academic calendar and rescind furlough days for employees, the reorganization and new Call Center number for the Division of Special Education, updates from ITD and information about the Bond Oversight Committee rejecting the Common Core Technology Plan. We also highlighted the LAUSD teacher who was selected by the California Department of Education as one of five California Teachers of the Year. 

The Policy Brief for the month of November focused on how LAUSD is aligning our graduation requirements with the 15 A-G Requirements to ensure that all our students are college-prepared and career-ready


The September 2012 edition of the LAUSD Insider welcomed our employees, students and families to a new school year. It highlighted events such as the Latino Heritage Month Poster Competition, LAUSD's Student Recovery Day and the KLCS Families Matter episode regarding attendance. We also highlighted the release of the District's Strategic Plan to the public, the rise of state standardized test score in all subject in nearly every grade level and how LAUSD is helping to provide verification assistance for those applying for Deferred Action.

The Policy Brief for the month of September focused on the LAUSD Strategic Framework to ensure all student graduate college-prepared and career-ready.

The June 2012 edition of the LAUSD Insider informed our LAUSD community of the deadline to enroll in Summer School Classes, the "Let's Move: Feria Fitness" event, and the Families In Schools "Passport to Success" program to encourage Summer learning and the upcoming Families Matter episode on KLCS, which discussed the special role mothers play in education. We also highlighted the Board of Education approving the new A-G Curriculum Policy, the launch of our first Social Media survey, the expansion of the Transitional Kindergarten program District-wide and our bargaining partners working together to save jobs and programs for the 2012-13 school year. 

The Policy Brief for the month of June focused on the upcoming changes that will help build a Foundation of Skills.


The May 2012 edition of the LAUSD Insider was filled with useful information about the May Revise when Governor Brown released the final 2012-13 budget information, the on-going School Experience Surveys for students, parents and staff, the A-G Curriculum Policy recommendations that were presented at the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Committee in April, the 2011-2012 Reduced Instructional Calendar and the launch of KLCS' pledge drive to help raise funds for the Education Station. We also highlighted the Families Matter episode that focused on how parents can create a love of reading in the home. 

The Policy Brief for the month of May focused on the approved A-G Curriculum Policy.


The April 2012 edition of the LAUSD Insider informed our LAUSD community of the on-going School Experience Surveys for students, parents and staff, the upcoming LAUSD Family Summit "Make Me Proud: On the Road to College and Careers," and the upcoming episodes of The Teacher's Hour on KLCS. We also highlighted the L.A. Board of Educations decision to support a one-year stabilization plan for the 2012-13 Budget and the parcel tax to stabilize LAUSD schools, which will go to voters in November, and the new District Policy on Reporting and Notification procedures regarding sexual misconduct by an employee.

The Policy Brief for the month of April focused on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)


The March 2012 edition of the LAUSD Insider was filled with useful information about the District-wide Child Abuse Awareness Professional Development, online surveys for parents, students and the community to participate in, and Summer School staff opportunities. We also highlighted two original KLCS television programs: Families Matter and Safe Schools for All, which aired during the month of March. 

The Policy Brief for the month of March focused on the LAUSD's Budget


The February 2012 issue of the new LAUSD Insider was the inaugural issue. It gave readers an easy-to-read look at what's happening throughout the District. We highlighted the Board of Education resolution to Boost LAUSD Enrollment, the resolution to Examine Increasing Enrollment choices passed by the Board of Education and informed readers of our upcoming Budget presentation at the Feb. 14 Board Meeting.
