Arts Matter is a first of its kind program to support arts education in Los Angeles public schools. Working in partnership with practicing artists, cultural institutions, businesses, and the philanthropic community, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Fund for Public Education are launching a public art campaign focused on the importance of arts education in Los Angeles public schools. Arts Matter features original works of art by world renowned artists on a fleet of city buses and other outdoor media totaling over $4 million in value and approximately 900 million ‘eyes on artwork’ impressions. The public art exhibition launches with the work of artist Barbara Kruger.
In recognition of the importance of arts education, the LA Fund will provide multi-year school grants raised through Arts Matter for innovative arts integration programs. This Research and Development Arts Fund will reinforce the strategic core of Superintendent John Deasy’s multi-year strategic plan by supporting art curriculum in line with the new Common Core Standards. The alignment of arts education with these national standards will enhance college preparedness for LAUSD students.
