Statement Regarding the Arrest of an LAUSD Employee

News Statement

Dec. 16, 2013

Jonathan Roldan, a campus aide and girls junior varsity volleyball coach at the Esteban E. Torres campus currently is being held on accusations of lewd acts with a minor. The Los Angeles Unified School District will place him on unpaid compulsory leave when he’s formally charged, pending resolution of the criminal matter. If convicted, he will be dismissed. Superintendent John Deasy is recommending moving ahead with the dismissal process at the earliest opportunity.

Parents and guardians were notified over the weekend of an arrest by phone. A letter was sent home today with students. L.A. Unified continues to cooperate with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on the investigation.

The District takes these charges very seriously. Every precaution is taken throughout L.A. Unified to ensure the safety of students and staff. Crisis counselors will be provided at the campus on Tuesday.
