We are troubled by the University of California, Irvine rescinding admission offers that had been extended to hundreds of incoming freshmen. The students were forced to either appeal the university’s decision, or to seek out last-minute post-secondary alternatives. Rather than celebrating their achievements, graduates of L.A. Unified and school districts around the country are now dealing with confusion and anxiety over an uncertain future.
We call on the university’s leaders to quickly resolve this issue, and to re-admit applicants who have met or exceeded the academic criteria for acceptance.
Through their hard work and perseverance, these students have earned the right to pursue their dreams, while becoming global citizens and tomorrow’s leaders.
