LOS ANGELES (April 30, 2013) – Engineering teams from Sun Valley High School participated in the Mini Urban Challenge. The event, national in scope, challenges students to build and program an autonomous vehicle that can navigate through a model Lego city.
The teams also were judged on their presentations, that is, the building and testing of their vehicle. The California Regional competition, held recently in Torrance, consisted of 16 teams. Sun Valley fielded two teams, placing first and third respectively.
They will now represent the California Region in the National Finals, which will be held in June at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
The Urban Mini Challenge, sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory, presents high school students with a challenge of designing and operating a robotic car that navigates a model Lego city. The cars were developed from the Lego Mindstorm Education kit.
