California Business for Education Excellence Names 119 LAUSD Schools to its 2011 Honor Roll

LOS ANGELES (May 15, 2012) – One Hundred and nineteen schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) were recently named to the California Business for Education Excellence’s (CBEE) 2011 Honor Roll.

The tribute from the California business community is for demonstrating high levels of student academic success, improvement in accomplishment levels over time and for a reduction in achievement gaps among students. For high schools, the Honor Roll recognition also includes measures of college readiness.

“Thank you to CBEE for recognizing our hard working students, who have clearly demonstrated high levels of success that will prepare them for their futures,” said LAUSD Superintendent John Deasy. “It greatly pleases me that our high achieving youth are being rewarded for their high aptitudes in math and science.”

For the first time, the business community is recognizing a subset of the Honor Roll that has both high percentages of low-income students and high levels of math and science achievement. The District’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Honor Roll schools will receive special recognition of their accomplishments. Attached is the list of the LAUSD honorees:
