Superintendent Michelle King to Give State of the District Address: ‘Reaching New Heights and Accelerating the Pace’

WHAT: With the 2017-18 school year scheduled to begin on Aug. 15, Dr. Michelle King will address the L.A. Unified Board of Education and nearly 1,500 principals, assistant principals and other top administrators during the annual Superintendent’s State of the District speech.

WHO: 
Board President Dr. Ref Rodriguez, Board Vice President Mónica García and Board Members Dr. George J. McKenna III, Scott Schmerelson, Nick Melvoin, Kelly Gonez and Dr. Richard Vladovic
Presentation of colors: Monroe High School Police Academy Magnet Honor Guard
Pledge of allegiance: Fifth-grader Yvette Fuentes from San Pascual STEAM Magnet
National anthem: Van Nuys High School Vannaires
Music: Van Nuys High School Vannaires; Angela Munoz, a junior from the Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts

WHEN: 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8

Note to media: Media vans can enter through the Woods Avenue entrance and park near the auditorium. Place media placards or credentials in full view.

The address will air live on KLCS-TV beginning at 9 a.m. and will stream live on the District’s website, www.lausd.net. The station will re-play the annual address at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 8; 6 a.m. Aug. 10; 5:30 p.m. Aug. 11; and 7 a.m. Aug. 13.
