WHAT: Students at two L.A. Unified elementary schools will start off the academic year with a new backpack chockfull of school supplies, courtesy of the Rainbow Pack.
Seventeen-year-old Riley Joy Gantt and members of her youth-led nonprofit will lead students in taking a “homework pledge” and distribute the backpacks and academic tools the students need for success.
They will be joined by members of the Los Angeles School Police Department. School Board Member Scott M. Schmerelson will attend the event at Canoga Park Elementary School.
With donations and grants, the Rainbow Pack has provided nearly 15,000 backpacks to L.A. Unified students in underserved communities.
